Sharm el Sheikh is an Egyptian resort city, located at the junction of the Gulf of Aqaba and the Gulf of Suez on the Red Sea coast. It has an area of 480 km². It has a population of 35,000 and is the largest city in the South Sinai province. The most common activity in the city is in the tourism sector. It was originally a small fishing village, which later became an Egyptian naval base, due to its important strategic position.
