Faiyum is the richest area in prehistoric remains where the oldest fossils of the Nile Valley are found. With a special 4x4 car excursion we will be able to discover a totally unknown area north of Lake Qaron. The petrified forest north of Lake Qarun is a very attractive spot in Fayoum. ITINERARY

After meeting at your hotel, we will leave with our Misrona Tours guide to the south of Cairo to contemplate the impressive landscapes of the Faiyum oasis. Before reaching the Fayoum oasis we will head towards the temple of Qasr el Sagha.

Qasr el Sagha: The temple was built with limestone blocks of different sizes, which fit tightly together without the use of mortar and with joints at the oblique corners.

Gabal Qatrani Reserve and Qaron Petrified Forest: In other quarries near the Faiyum Depression, particularly at Gabal Qatrani, fossil ancestors of monkeys (Proconsul), elephants (Moerithrium, Arsinoetherium, etc.) and other terrestrial and marsh mammals were found. The Faiyum Depression was inhabited by Neolithic Man, whose sites reveal a remarkable stage in the evolution of the use of stone artifacts.

Wedan el Faras: There is a large black basalt quarry on the northern edge of Gebel Qatrani, near the two prominent hills called Widan el-Faras, a real adventure in the desert. Once an Old Kingdom quarry, it is now known to be the source of the basalt used for the pyramid temples of the Old Kingdom. The site is located about 340 meters above sea level.

Lunch: After finishing the tour, we continue to a restaurant for lunch.

Return: Finally, return to the hotels in Cairo.
