Then we have a stop in front of the Colossi of Memnon; two gigantic statues that were moved from Cairo to flank the entrance to the funerary temple of King Amenophis III but the temple was lost and the statues remain, witness to the greatness that the temple possessed in its time.

It is the second largest temple in Egypt after Karnak and one of the best preserved. The temple's pylon is the second tallest at 36 meters high and 79 meters wide. It was built for 180 years between 237 and 57 BC. The site still has ruins of the old city and the houses of the priests, and restoration and excavation works are underway.

Day 7: Aswan - Abu Simbel temples

Very early Misrona Tours representative will pick you up from your cruise by a modern air-conditioned coach to enjoy a tour to Abu Simbel. Abu Simbel is a site of archaeological interest that is made up of Egyptian temples located in Nubia, in southern Egypt. It is located on the western bank of Lake Nasser, about 280 km southwest of Aswan, close to its original location. The temples are part of the Open-Air Museum of Nubia and Aswan, a complex that was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979 under the name of "Nubian Monuments". The temples were carved out of the rock during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC. C., as a monument dedicated to said pharaoh and his wife Nefertari, to commemorate their supposed victory in the battle of Kadesh and show their power to their Nubian neighbors. In 1968, the complex was relocated on an artificial hill, built on nearby land above the level of the future Lake Nasser. The removal of the temples was necessary to prevent them from being submerged, after the construction of the Aswan High Dam, by the reservoir formed by the waters of the Nile River. Abu Simbel remains one of the most important tourist attractions in Egypt.

After lunch, you will be transferred to visit the famous High Dam, and the majestic Philae temple. The name comes from an island located in the Nile River, 11 kilometers south of Aswan. It was famous for the temples erected during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods dedicated to the worship of the goddess Isis; goddess of music, love and joy that spread throughout the Mediterranean, until the temple was closed in 430 AD. It bears names of several governors starting with Nectaneb II, pharaoh of the XXX dynasty, sacred buildings of some importance began to be erected on the island. The Ptolemies continued to expand the complex and, later, some Roman emperors such as Augustus, Tiberius, Trajan and Hadrian, ordered the construction of more buildings.... Then, back to the Nile cruise and overnight in Aswan.
