The Tanoura dance show is most famous for the name of the dervishes dance. Its origin is Turkish which is called Mawlawi. In Egypt it is a very interesting story of a man who has lost everything he had in his life symbolized by taking off the layers of her skirt. In the El Ghoury palace this type of dance is celebrated and it is highly recommended.

ITINERARY

   Cairo by night tour can be one of the best evening activities you can do in Cairo. And also, you will visit Islamic Cairo and Khan el Khalili. At 5.30 pm Misrona tour representative will pick you up by air conditioned vehicle to attend the Tanoura Show at Wekalet El Ghoury which is an architecturally stunning arts center in the El Azhar area of central Cairo. The show will start at 7.30 pm. The Tanoura Troupe are called Al Ghoury, a mix of male dancers, musicians and singers all performing traditional Egyptian styles and instruments dating back many centuries. The Sufi show in which you will watch in the first part performers with array of musical instruments like El doff, or tambourine, to the Aloud (a stringed instrument), and flute. After solos by various singers, a vocalist, known as the muezzin, appears on a balcony, and sings of spirituality. The second part is the Sufi tanoura dance, derived from the moves of whirling dervishes that are part of a Sufi ritual.

  As singers and musicians with traditional instruments fill the air with entrancing melodies, the “Whirling dervishes”twirl non-stop for up to 30 minutes straight in their colorful multi-layered skirts. Seating on a first-come, first serve basis- no advance booking. When the show ends, we continue to the restaurant for dinner. 

   At the end of the tour return to the hotel.
