Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor with Abu Simbel visit
(3 nights/4 days)
ITINERARY
Day 1: Aswan
On the first day, a representative from Misrona Tours will welcome you at Aswan Airport at your designated time. We can also meet you at a hotel, train station, or another preferred location. We proceed to the cruise pier, where accommodation will be arranged, and full board begins with lunch on the first day. Afterward, our guide will assist you in visiting the High Dam and the Philae Temple, often called the "Pearl of Egypt." This temple, located on an island in the Nile River, is famous for its structures dedicated to the goddess Isis. Originally submerged under Lake Nasser due to the Aswan Dam, the temples were dismantled and reconstructed on Agilkia Island under UNESCO's guidance. The temple complex saw contributions from various rulers, including the Ptolemies and Roman emperors.
After the tour, we will return to the cruise for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a felucca ride on the Nile, with an optional excursion to the Nubian Village if time permits. Overnight on the boat.
Day 2: Abu Simbel & Kom Ombo
Early in the morning, very early and before breakfast, departure to visit the temples of Abu Simbel. Abu Simbel is an archaeological site of Egyptian temples located in Nubia, southern Egypt. It is located on the western bank of Lake Nasser, about 280 km southwest of Aswan, close to its original site. The temples are part of the Nubia and Aswan Open-Air Museum, a complex that was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979 under the name "Nubian Monuments". The temples were carved into the rock during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC, as a monument dedicated to said Pharaoh and his wife Nefertari, to commemorate their supposed victory at the Battle of Kadesh and to show their power to their Nubian neighbors. In 1968, the complex was relocated to an artificial hill, built on nearby land above the level of the future Lake Nasser. The relocation of the temples was necessary to prevent them from being submerged by the reservoir formed by the waters of the Nile River after the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Abu Simbel remains one of Egypt's most important tourist attractions.
Upon returning to the cruise, enjoy lunch as we navigate towards the Temple of Kom Ombo, arriving at sunset. This unique temple is dedicated to two deities: Sobek, depicted as a crocodile, and Haroeris, depicted as a falcon. We will explore the temple and the adjacent crocodile mummies museum before continuing our journey to Edfu, where we will dock for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Edfu - Luxor
After breakfast, we visit the Temple of Edfu, dedicated to the falcon god Horus and known as one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. After our visit, we return to the cruise, which continues sailing toward Esna, where we will pass through a famous lock.
Arriving in Luxor (ancient Thebes), we begin by visiting the Temple of Luxor, built during the New Kingdom. Here, you will see the impressive avenue of sphinxes leading to Karnak Temple, the largest temple complex in the world. We will explore this historical site, which spans over 23 hectares and features structures built over 22 centuries.
After returning to the cruise ship for dinner, we will spend the night docked in Luxor.
Day 4: Disembarkation in Luxor
After breakfast, we will vacate the cruise cabins and cross the Nile River to visit the western bank, including the Valley of the Kings. Here, you can enter three of the 63 discovered tombs, which are adorned with well-preserved colors and texts depicting the afterlife. Our guide will select the most interesting tombs for you to explore.
Next, we visit the funerary temple of Pharaoh Hatshepsut, known for its unique architecture of two ramps and three terraces. Finally, we will stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two gigantic statues that once flanked the entrance to Amenophis III’s temple.
The tour concludes around noon. At your convenience, we will transport you to Luxor Airport, the train station, or any desired location in the city.
